the Classroom Dragons' 1st CD

It's here...  the Classroom Dragons first CD has finally arrived.  I remember when I first got into that band in May of '03 we were all learning these originals so that a CD could be made.  Well here it is, a little over 6 years later and it's finally done.  If you're interested, you can order a copy of it here.

The coolest thing about this for me is that I can say I was actually involved in making a CD (although I'm not playing on every track).  In addition, one of my songs is on here as well - "You" (track 9).  I wrote it for my wife.  After hearing it, there's a few things I may have haved changed (I think that's true of any project that comes down to the wire), but all in all, I think it turned out pretty cool.  Hear a snippet of "You" here.

That song is kinda funny.  It started out as my attemp at something that sounded Dave Matthews-ish.  I came up with the verse riff about 9 years or so ago, when I was in this bullshit oldies band.  It was one of those riff's that just stuck in my head.  I knew I wanted to eventually turnit into a full song.  It wound up being one of the last songs completed for this CD.

All of the other songs on the CD were written by some combination of Sandman and Josh Sandkuhler.  Well, with other things about the band frustrating me, the process of finishing this CD started really frustrating me and I wanted to know if there were ever going to be any songs on the CD written by the band.  Long story short, I had offered up this song and another.  We went with this one and one year after I brought it to the band, it was finally recorded.  That was December 2008.  The CD was made available at the Dragons' July 17 show at the Golden Sports Bar.

The track listing is a follows:

1. Broken Wing
5:51
The song the band has played the most.  Probably my favorite Dragons original.
2. Opportunity Of Love
4:58
The second original the Dragons had learned as a band.  A little Ska-ish.
3. Does It Make Sense
4:03
The slow-down ballad.
4. Song Of Love
3:18
A throw-back to old doo-whop.
5. Road To Macon
5:17
A southern-tinged, grungy ode to days of old.
6. I've Got Worries Too
4:28
The "Santana Song".  I love the solo on this one. The harmony part is a little low in the mix though.  If you listen closely, you may hear a Metallica influence to the solo :)
7. Junior
4:13
The last of the three original originals we used to play.
8. Darkest Hour
2:53
One of Josh's newer ones.  Nice groove... I think I liked Josh singing on it better though...
9. You
4:04
My song for Michelle.  Sandman has a pretty Bitchin' sax solo on here.
10. On Call
3:47
Another nice little ballad.
11. Light As A Feather
4:27
A nice straight-up rocker. I like the double-stop explosive way the second solo starts.
12. This Year
4:21
A nice mellow way to wind out.
